Explanation of Responses:

1. The reporting person received these shares on 9/19/2000 in exchange for its shares of Genovo, Inc. in the merger of a subsidiary of Targeted Genetics Corporation with and into Genovo.

2. Shares are owned indirectly by Biogen Idec Inc. and directly by its wholly-owned subsidiary Biogen Idec MA, Inc., fka Biogen, Inc.

3. The reporting person received these shares on 9/19/2000 as consideration for the return to Genovo of certain intellectual property and other rights in connection with the merger described in footnote 1.

4. The reporting person purchased these shares on 9/25/2002 upon exercise by Targeted Genetics of its right to put such shares to the reporting person for purchase under the Funding Agreement dated as of August 8, 2000 between Targeted Genetics and the reporting person.
